Logan, QLD achieves Australian-first conversion of human waste into biogas during pilot program
Logan, QLD Human Waste Biogas Conversion Pilot
Complete
The council's Loganholme Wastewater Treatment Plant tested a new process for turning sewage into biogas. This process bakes sludge into biogas that is used to turn biowaste into a product called biochar. Test rounds of biochar were delivered to farms in the Darling Downs region for soil conditioning. Broad adoption of this waste-to-energy would reduce council operating costs by $500,000 AUD per year and annual emissions by 4,800 tons.
