The two-year pilot started with the installation of air quality sensors throughout Stratford Town Centre. These sensors measured nitrogen dioxide and particulate levels throughout extensive road upgrades. Newham completed new bike lanes, extended sidewalks, and eco-friendly drainage in the pilot area. Borough officials concluded the study on National Clean Air Day 2021 with a call for residents to swap their cars for low-emission alternatives.

Newham Council environmental pilot delivering cleaner air for Stratford residents – Newham Council

Mayor Rokhsana Fiaz has marked Clean Air Day (Thursday 17th June) by welcoming the results of a two-year study that has revealed how Council improvement works in Stratford Town Centre have helped to produce cleaner air.

Project Succeeded

Air quality sensors found a 24% decrease in nitrogen dioxide emissions after implementation of new road projects.
