Louisville, KY piloted smart smoke detection system to reduce abandoned property fires

Louisville, KY Smart Smoke Detection System Pilot

Complete

Louisville challenged innovators to create affordable technology to eliminate multi-property fires. The Completely Autonomous Solar-Powered Event Responder (CASPER) device lasts up to six months on stored energy. CASPER listens for city-installed smoke detectors in abandoned properties and communicates potential fires to emergency responders and neighbors. A six-month pilot in 15 properties found two confirmed incidents and no false positives.
