Lugano's partnership with Tether works toward making the city a European leader in the use of decentralized digital currencies. Plan ₿ enables payments of all council taxes and fees in cryptocurrencies with future uses in retail settings. Two-week Plan ₿ Summer School sessions combine lectures on blockchain use with pitch competitions for cash prizes. Additional components of Plan ₿ include a 100 million CFH investment pool and an R&D hub with space for 300 innovators.
