Powys County Council, GB builds AI-enabled system for expedited Fuel Support Scheme reviews

The council's developers spent a year designing a platform for automated reviews of local applications to the national support program. Applicants meeting all of the scheme's criteria received automatic approvals from the system. Duplicate applications were filtered out by AI, while potentially fraudulent applications were sent for council review. Residents benefitted from an easy-to-use application for £200 payments, while the council saved money on administration costs.

Halton Borough Council, GB adopts Early Pay by Saltare for expedited supplier payments

Halton Borough Council is the first local council in the UK to use Early Pay. The payment management platform offers expedited payments to suppliers. This optional offer trades quick turnarounds on invoices for small discounts on product or service costs. Council officials are integrating Early Pay throughout its operations in early 2023. Early Pay eliminates long wait times for local vendors and creates opportunities for council savings.

Gilbert, AZ increases resident awareness of online utility payments with sweepstakes

The town's Utilities team introduced a sweepstakes for a $500 Visa gift card running through January 2023. Residents enter into the drawing if they sign up for AutoPay or complete three payments in a row through the billing portal. This contest followed a 2018 campaign that entered online portal users into a drawing for two Arizona Cardinals tickets. Increases in AutoPay and online payments reduce paper waste while improving the timeliness of payments.

London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, GB distributes direct aid with Cash Perks messaging service

The council's cash payment system was deemed too complex and slow to help low-income households. Local officials worked with Cash Perks on a pilot program for small grants via text message.
