Madison, WI is preparing to launch a one-year police body-worn cameras pilot program

The City of Madison is launching a one-year police body-worn cameras pilot program. The pilot will determine whether the city is able to successfully use the body cameras as a tool to hold officers and civilians accountable and protect innocent citizens from wrongful convictions. The council-approved resolution incorporates requirements of the city's existing surveillance technology ordinance into the pilot program's design.

Madison, WI partnered with SPIDR Tech to launch an automated text message platform for 911 callers

The Madison Police Department partnered with SPIDR Tech to launch a platform which uses the emergency dispatch system to send automated text messages to 911 callers. The text message provides a summary of their call and once the event is cleared by officers an additional text message offers an opportunity for the caller to provide feedback on their experience. To avoid endangering victims, reports of sexual assault, domestic disturbances and 911 hang-ups will not trigger the text messages.

Madison, WI engages multiple city departments in electric cargo bike pilot

The city worked with Saris Infrastructure to design the multi-month pilot in the midst of COVID-19. A fully electric cargo bike was first used by the Fleet Services team. Personnel with the Greenway Vegetation Program also used the bike to carry equipment and brush. City officials planned for additional departments to evaluate how the bike fits into their operations. Each operator tracks mileage and completes a survey, producing valuable data for Madison and Saris.
