Marion County, MO pledged $1 million in ARPA funds to expand rural broadband connectivity
The Marion County Commission has pledged $1 million in American Rescue Plan funds to expand broadband internet in rural areas. The county made the pledge after reviewing maps presented by Chariton Valley, a telecommunications services company, highlighting areas of the county that currently do not have internet service. Chariton Valley estimates that it would cost $3.9 million to provide 1GB service to those areas and agreed to match the dollar amount of any contribution made by the county.

Marion County entered into an agreement with the Missouri 911 Service Board to improve existing 911 systems and implement 911 services in Missouri counties where they do not currently exist. The agreement covers Marion, Macon, Clark, Schuyler, and Scotland counties in Missouri. The agreement also states that the Missouri 911 Service Board will ensure primary access and texting abilities to 911 services for all residents with disabilities.
