Mecklenburg County, NC Budget Public Engagement Initiative

The initiative began in Fiscal Year 2021 with five goals in mind: Inform, Consult, Involve, Collaborate, and Empower. An online Balancing Act Budget Simulator asked users for their suggestions on revenue and spending priorities. County officials held question-and-answer sessions on Facebook Live in addition to an expanded schedule of town hall meetings. Anonymized responses to a budget priority survey were available for review on a public dashboard.
