Meriden, CT evaluates the impacts of food scrap diversion during Co-Collection Pilot Program

Meriden, CT Food Scrap Co-Collection Pilot Program

In Progress

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and HQ Dumpsters are working with the city on the four-month pilot. One thousand households received 8-ounce green bags and advice from program volunteers. Participants place bagged food scraps in the same bins as the orange bags used for landfill waste. Collected materials are sent to Quantum Power for use as biogas. This pilot will produce data on the scale and types of food waste typically sent to landfills.
