Municipal officials responded to data showing a high number of local deaths related to air pollution. Thirty compact monitors donated by Bloomberg Philanthropies were installed near schools and densely populated areas. Real-time particulate data are integrated into data from regional sensors maintained by Lombardy's environmental protection agency. Local and regional officials will design emission reduction measures based on air quality trends.

Milan and co-op federation Legacoop are using SanificaAria Minis for air quality improvements in taxis. The Beghelli-designed devices use fans to collect air for treatment with UV-C rays. This process eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and viruses at the source of transmissible diseases like COVID-19. Legacoop placed the devices on the back of front-seat headrests to capture air passing between drivers and passengers.

Milan, LOM Cambio plan will place over 80% of the city within one kilometer of a cycling route
The city of Milan partnered with the Dutch spatial economic research firm Decisio to design the Cambio plan to enhance sustainable travel. The city approved this £200 million plan to construct 750 kilometres of bike paths by 2035. The Cambio network will consist of four ring roads, four greenways, and 16 radiating lines to connect the city to its suburbs and surrounding municipalities. Once completed, 86% of the city's population and 80% services will be within one kilometer of a bike route.

The Mobility and Environment Agency of Milan approached Vianova to centralize shared mobility data. Vianova is working with 17 operators including Lime and Cityscoot on integrating vehicle and driver data into its platform. This platform produces valuable insights into how Milan can manage traffic safety, road maintenance, and new capital projects. Local officials established a long-term goal of shifting 35 kilometers of roads from cars to pedestrians and micro-mobility users.

Nineteen neighborhood projects were selected to raise donations through a crowdfunding platform. The city offers to fund 60% of a project's budget if its organizers can raise the remaining 40%. Milan, LOM addresses mobility challenges during COVID-19 with Taxi Solidale pilot
Taxi Solidale - or solidarity taxi - offers free rides to residents identified by the Milano Aiula social service organization. A ride can be secured up to three days in advance by calling the city's customer service line. Local officials are considering an extension of the six-month pilot to serve medical personnel.
