Modesto, CA implements a city park ranger trial for improved nuisance enforcement
Modesto, CA City Park Ranger Trial Nuisance Enforcement
In Progress
This program is designed to improve park environments by eliminating common nuisances. The city council approved the deployment of four police cadets as park rangers during the 18-month pilot. Rangers equipped with pepper spray and ticket books will educate first-time offenders on municipal codes. Repeat violations including unleashed dogs, littering, and public drinking will lead to citations. The ranger team refers unhoused residents to relevant resources rather than the police.
