Modesto, CA to launch AI-powered chatbot
The city is moving forward with its first chatbot, which will make it easier for residents to get answers to their questions and to request services in 71 languages. Per GovTech.com, officials have approved a three-year contract with South Carolina-based Citibot. Modesto expects to go live with its chatbot, as well as redesigns to its website and GoModesto app, between March and June 2024.

City officials conducted three months of testing before Wordly was made available for council meetings. Modesto, CA implements a city park ranger trial for improved nuisance enforcement
This program is designed to improve park environments by eliminating common nuisances. The city council approved the deployment of four police cadets as park rangers during the 18-month pilot. Rangers equipped with pepper spray and ticket books will educate first-time offenders on municipal codes. Repeat violations including unleashed dogs, littering, and public drinking will lead to citations. The ranger team refers unhoused residents to relevant resources rather than the police.

Modesto, CA considers approving an electric scooter pilot program with Bird Rides partner
The city of Modesto is considering a pilot program with Bird Rides a Santa Monica-based electric micro-mobility company. If approved by the Modesto City Council, Bird Rides would deploy at least 50 electric scooter rentals at central locations throughout city streets and pay the city five cents per ride to help pay for transportation improvements. According the the California Vehicle Code, riders would be required to have a driver's license, not carry passengers, and travel under 15 mph.
