New Plymouth District Council partnered with EnviroNZ, Road Science and Downer to trial a new material for road resurfacing. The material, Plas Mix, is created by mixing recycled plastic waste and asphalt. According to Road Science testing, the new material should be stronger and more cost-effective than traditional asphalt. The trial is utilising 500kg of residential recycled plastic for local road resurfacing.

New Plymouth District Council launched "NPDC GeoHUB" its newly redesigned ArcGIS Hub website which provides the Council's spatial data to the public free of charge. This upgrade to the Council's previous Open Data portal includes a GIS Viewer that allows users to explore the Council's water systems, check property boundaries, and examine aerial photos and contours. The Council also allows users to download the spatial data or access that data live using REST API.
