Ausgrid plans a network of 30,000 pole-mounted EV chargers from EVX by 2029. Newcastle hosts Australia's first Polecharger unit at Dixon Beach Park in Mereweather. This charging system offers dual chargers, minimal installation requirements, and a mobile app for user access. The Dixon Beach Park unit accommodates tourists and local beachgoers with limited EV charging options. The Polecharger network will focus on street and garage parking with long dwell times.

Newcastle, Mosman, and Willoughby are working with iQ Renew to divert coffee capsules from landfills. Three thousand participants receive orange bags for aluminum capsule collection. The bags are placed in curbside recycling bins and sent to Nespresso by iQ Renew. Aluminum and coffee grounds are separated for reuse in capsule production and composting, respectively. This Australian-first trial is funded by Nespresso and allows an evaluation of new recycling methods by the councils.

Newcastle, NSW evaluates the impacts of recycled biofilters on roadside drainage during pilot

Raingardens at six locations incorporate recycled glass and compostable material for biofiltration. This unique soil mixture filters street pollutants in stormwater on its way to local rivers and wetlands. Recycled biofilters differ from traditional drainage techniques by absorbing heat and providing habitats for local wildlife.
