The city of Pueblo is piloting the "Home of Heroes Nurse Navigator" program in which nurses will field 911 calls about nonemergency medical concerns. Through the program nurses will follow up within 24 hours and help callers find a doctor for the future. According to city officials, the nurse navigator two-year pilot program will free up fire and rescue personnel to respond to emergencies.

Pueblo 911 dispatchers are dealing with short staffing and high call volume, but more help is on the way thanks to a new grant program.
The City of Pueblo, in collaboration with Global Medical Response (GMR), is launching a new program called the home of the heroes nurse navigation program. This program will provide residents with non-emergency medical care. The dispatch manager, Kim Jefferies, said they hope this program helps give more attention to emergency callers.
