Participating retailers and restaurants received up to $3,600 CAD to move transactions online. City departments assisted businesses with the technical aspects of e-commerce platforms. Program partners Desjardins and SADC du Suroît-Sud provided funds along with marketing support. This digital transformation project was sparked by small business struggles during COVID-19. The city's first participatory budgeting round started with a two-month proposal period. Applicants were expected to present projects implementable on public property in 2020. A committee of municipal staffers narrowed suggestions to five finalists with the help of nonprofit partner PRAQ. Residents cast online ballots for their favorite projects. The winning project will receive up to $5,000 CAD in public funds for implementation.
