Snohomish County, WA passed an ordinance which requires grocery stores to give workers hazard pay

The Snohomish County Council passed an ordinance which requires grocery stores to pay their workers hazard pay. The ordinance applies to workers in unincorporated Snohomish County. The grocery stores are required to pay each worker $4 in hourly hazard pay up to $1,250 starting no later than July 15th. The Council considered using COVID-19 relief funding from the American Rescue Plan to provide the hazard pay but instead decided to mandate the pay come from the employers.

The interactive map shows county roads that have recently reopened or are currently closed for repairs. Public works staff place red dots on exact work locations and green dots on areas that were just repaired. Each dot is clickable for an estimated completion time and reasons for closure. Snohomish County issues real-time updates Monday through Thursday and during weather emergencies. The Road Closure Map will evolve as part of the county's Continuous Improvement Process.

Snohomish County, WA adds chatbot to help residents through COVID-19 and economic recovery

County staffers used Microsoft Azure's Bot Service to introduce the bot less than one month after the outbreak. Residents can enter keywords and full questions to learn more about testing, symptoms, and recovery programs. The AI-enabled chatbot recontextualizes web content into a conversational format that leads to actionable responses. Snohomish County developed the bot as an around-the-clock guide to the latest county information.
