St Charles County, MO is implementing a county-wide emergency vehicle priority traffic light system
St Charles County, MO emergency vehicle priority system
St Charles County is paying $809,000 to Global Traffic Technologies to install the Opticom emergency vehicle priority system. Once implemented, the new "smart intersections" will guarantee that every traffic light in the county turns green automatically for first responders during emergencies. When lights and sirens are activated, GPS units installed in emergency vehicles will alert the county's network of traffic lights of the unit's location and program upcoming lights to turn green.
