St. Petersburg, FL informs road safety interventions on university campus with smart intersection

The pilot seeks data-driven safety measures for an intersection on the University of South Florida at St. Petersburg campus. Existing Spectrum fiber lines were connected to smart light poles, sensors, and traffic cameras with built-in AI analytics. Data on near-accidents, pedestrian crossing times, and other trends are sent to a central dashboard for stakeholders. Advanced analytics will fine-tune signal timing and shape interventions for the city's Vision Zero efforts.

Pinellas County, FL pursues three-month autonomous shuttle pilot in St. Petersburg

The Autonomous Vehicle Advantage (AVA) pilot used Beep all-electric shuttles on a one-mile route. Passengers rode for free with stops at the Vinoy Renaissance, the St. Pete Pier, and the Dali Museum. Each 15-foot shuttle held up to 10 passengers with limited seating due to COVID-19. An onboard operator with a remote control overrode self-driving functions as necessary. The St. Petersburg pilot modeled the potential for autonomous shuttles in other Pinellas County communities.
