Tasman District Council, NZ is accessing existing private wildlife cameras for boating surveillance
Tasman District Council partnered with Project Janszoon to improve public safety by accessing their wildlife webcams in Anchorage and Awaroa. The Council uses these existing cameras as a 24 hour surveillance network to monitor speeding boats. The Council receives 30 second screenshots that are timestamped in popular spots to allow easy identification of potential safety concerns. The Council hopes that the surveillance system will promote safe boating and reduce boating injuries and accidents.
