Turnhout, VAN builds a more resilient power grid with its geothermal energy project

Turnhout, VAN Geothermal Energy Project Resilient Network

Planning

City officials and regional hospital AZ Turnhout are seeking a partner to build a combined heat and power (CHP) network in 2022. CHP zones at the Sint-Jozef hospital and a 500-home development in Fonteinstraat-Heizijde are connected for improved efficiency. Turnhout will then shift to geothermal energy as the primary source and CHP as a backup option. This low-emissions system will be built with citywide expansion in mind, which is expected by 2026.
