The City of Tuscaloosa is partnering with a distributor of autonomous grass-cutting devices, My Goat Inc., to deploy robotic lawn mowers. The City Council's public projects committee unanimously endorsed a three-year contract with the Nashville-based company to use these lawn mowing "goats" in city-maintained areas. The 36-month contract will cost $14,088 for the first year and $9,168 for each remaining year but the robotic mowers will reduce fuel costs, equipment maintenance, and manpower.

Tuscaloosa, AL collaborates with University of Alabama on smart blight reduction technology
City garbage trucks are equipped with cameras that capture signs of blight like abandoned vehicles and graffiti. Images captured throughout the city are fed into an AI-enabled system that uses past code violations for comparative analysis. This system produces recommended next steps to bring the properties in question back into compliance. Project leaders designed this smart technology to recommend city services for property owners unable to cover remediation costs.
