Waterloo, IA is partnering with Magellan Advisors to design a municipal broadband utility
The city of Waterloo is creating a municipal broadband utility to compete with private internet companies. The Waterloo City Council unanimously approved a $2.5 million contract with Magellan Advisors to design and engineer a 309-mile fiber-to-the-home network throughout the city. The design will provide a cost estimate, which is expected to be tens of millions of dollars, for building the system and voters will decide whether to approve a bond issue to pay for its construction.

Waterloo, IA City Council amended traffic ordinances to pave the way for Bird's e-scooters
The Waterloo City Council amended several vehicle and traffic ordinances in order to allow residents to rent electric scooters from the Bird company's fleet. The ordinances established rules for licensing shared mobility device operators including fees, insurance requirements, and customer service standards. The Council added e-scooters to the city's existing bicycle ordinance and determined specific zones where shared mobility devices can be operated.
