Waverley, NSW powers its public Wi-Fi network with council-owned solar panels

Waverley, NSW Public Wi-Fi Network Solar Panels

Complete

The council's free Wi-Fi network grew from serving Bondi Beach patrons to 85,000 users in six locations. Waverley requires 27,000 kilowatts per year to power 90 Wi-Fi points. Rooftop solar panels across public buildings provide 100% of the electricity needed to maintain user connectivity. Council officials established a net-zero emissions goal for 2050 achievable in part by its solar-powered Wi-Fi.
