Whanganui District Council, NZ rural landowner survey
Whanganui District Council partnered with the Rural Community Board to conduct a survey of rural landowners. The survey was designed to address issues with rural internet connectivity and its impact on the agriculture sector. Respondents indicated that the majority of rural landowners have internet access but their internet speed is too low and unreliable. The survey confirmed that the lack of reliable connectivity is a distinct disadvantage for the agriculture sector.
Project Succeeded
According to the survey results, approximately 77% of local rural landowners have access to the internet, but 73.3% of them report having download speeds under 10 Mbps compared to New Zealand’s average internet speed of 14.7 Mbps. The Council is using the information gathered from this survey to create a programme focused on revitalising agricultural businesses.
