Alexander County, NC improves connectivity during COVID-19 with broadband pilot

Alexander County and Open Broadband began with a 2019 pilot in Taylorsville. The broadband connectivity program expanded to Hiddenite, Rocky Face, and Stony Point in 2020. Open Broadband equipment at Linney Mountain Tower fills in gaps left by other providers at a competitive monthly price of $45. The partnership yielded public Wi-Fi at the county courthouse for students of schools closed due to the pandemic.

Project Succeeded

A pilot survey found 67.9 percent of participants had much better experiences with Open Broadband than previous service providers. County officials approved an expansion of the pilot In March 2021 to serve an additional 650 residents.
