Brown County, WI launches AI virtual assistant for non-emergency calls
Aurelian's AVA answers routine non-emergency dispatch calls
Brown County Public Safety Communications launched AVA, an Aurelian virtual assistant that holds natural conversations with callers on the county's non-emergency line and transfers possible emergencies to a dispatcher; 911 calls are still answered by people. The county averages about 160,000 non-emergency calls a year, and in AVA's first full week it fielded more than 60% of nearly 1,950 calls. A grant covers 90% of the $110,000 annual cost.
