Cardinia, VIC rotates signage and cameras at illegal dumping hotspots during six-month pilot

Cardinia, VIC Illegal Dumping Hotspot Signage Cameras

Complete

Council officials identified hotspots for illegal waste dumping based on resident surveys and service calls. Ten dumping sites featured combinations of deterrence signs, security cameras, and trail cameras. Cardinia and Sustainability Victoria rotated these assets to gather data on best methods for preventing the activity. Camera footage allowed local law enforcement to issue fines, while signage raised awareness among first-time perpetrators.
