The City of Charleston estimates that its stormwater drainage improvement project will result in a 500% increase in the flow of stormwater reducing flooding and protecting landscapes. The project has been ongoing for 8 years and involves creating drainage basins by digging vertical passageways connected to surface pipes. By creating a new outfall for stormwater the city will increase flowrate by up to seven times its existing capabilities.
