Flint, MI University of Michigan Fiscal Modernization Pilot
The university's Center for Local, State, and Urban Policy (CLOSUP) is working with city officials on digital reports. The pilot started with converting the 2020 Annual Comprehensive Finance Report (ACFR) from a PDF into the Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) format. CLOSUP and Flint will instill XBRL standards into the reporting process going forward. This project involves reviews of 20 years of reports to determine how open data standards could have improved city finances.
