Frankfort, MI informs beachgoers of sudden weather changes with SwimSmart beacon pilot

Frankfort, MI SwimSmart Beacon Pilot Beachgoers Weather

In Progress

SwimSmart beacons on Frankfort Beach gather real-time data from weather services and mobile networks. The beacon uses traffic signal colors to indicate safe conditions, cautions, and warnings about approaching storms. City officials plan social media campaigns and videos for local accommodations that educate visitors about the pilot. Frankfort worked with local American Indian groups to fund the pilot during the 2021 summer season.
