Kelowna, BC installs 5G sensor network at downtown intersections to advance smart city goals
Kelowna, BC 5G Downtown Intersection Network Smart City
Kelowna, the University of British Columbia (UBC), and Rogers are using sensors at two intersections to shape the city's long-term plans. Each intersection features a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor that captures vehicle and pedestrian motion. LiDAR sensors generate speed, motion, and location data around the clock without storing identifying characteristics. UBC students will analyze data on curbside stops, crosswalks, and traffic frequency for city usage.
