Kowanyama, QLD designs mobile app for the environmental and cultural work of its Rangers

Kowanyama, QLD Rangers Mobile App Environmental Cultural

Complete

The council built the app in-house with existing IT resources for minimal project costs. Kowanyama Rangers write and share notes on their daily experiences in the field. The mobile app stores photos for tracking tasks like feral pig management, threatened species monitoring, and invasive weed spraying. Rangers complete their cultural mapping work and learn about indigenous people thanks to the app's use of traditional place names for each location.

The tidal mangrove swamps and waterways are an important fish breeding habitat that provides a basis for subsistence
