City officials approved $200,000 from its federal ARPA allotment for a three-month voucher program. Local residents were eligible for up to $400 in theft deterrence work by participating mechanics. Vouchers were used for the installation of protective plating or rebar cages around catalytic converters. Mechanics could accept up to $10,000 each in vouchers with additional costs covered by residents. The Milpitas Police Department confirmed residency through an in-person registration process.
