Milwaukee, WI addresses high infant mortality rates with Birth Outcomes Made Better program

Milwaukee, WI Birth Outcomes Made Better Infant Mortality

In Progress

City health officials found Black infants were three times more likely to die before their first birthdays than white babies. The BOMB program recruits and trains 50 doulas to assist pregnant women in the 53206 ZIP code. This area was selected due to a high poverty rate and lack of prenatal counseling services. Participants receive emotional support, social service referrals, and health advice from their doulas until three months after delivery.
