Parramatta, NSW tests recycled asphalt to reduce landfill waste
Parramatta, NSW Recycled Asphalt Road Test
The city resurfaced a portion of Chelsmford Avenue with a recycled asphalt produced by Downer. The Reconophalt mixture includes plastic bags, printer ink, and bottles that otherwise end up in the landfill. Parramatta hopes the Chelsmford Avenue experiment expands to other streets as one kilometer of Reconophalt uses the equivalent of 500,000 plastic bags, 165,000 glass bottles, and 12,500 ink cartridges.
