The City of Phoenix is proposing Career Mobility Units to provide computer access, career counseling, education, childcare solutions, and other services to support job seekers and connect them to employers ready to hire. The proposal earned Phoenix a spot on the "Champion Cities" list of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge and a chance to receive $1 million to implement the career mobility units.

After uncovering the 50 most innovative urban solutions in the wake of COVID-19, the Challenge will award 15 grand prize winners $1 million each—to help cities implement their breakthrough ideas and, ultimately, to spread those ideas to other cities on a global scale.
