Phoenix, AZ responds to shortage of skilled workers with recruiting and payment incentives

Phoenix, AZ Recruiting Payment Incentives Skilled Shortage

In Progress

Bulk waste collection delays and public works vacancies led to new incentives. City employees with commercial driver's licenses earn an extra $3 per hour. Phoenix offers $2,500 to new solid waste equipment operators and $3,000 retention bonuses for current operators. New employees complete a first-in-the-nation apprenticeship program leading to their licenses. The Public Works Department also offers $5,000 incentives for a heavy equipment mechanic and an equipment service worker.
