In Progress
The Sterling Heights Fire Department is about to become the first fire department in the state of Michigan to use Remote Methane Leak Detectors. These handheld devices will allow first responders to quickly scan common venting points from a safe distance to determine the presence of colorless, odorless, and highly flammable methane gas. These devices use an infrared laser beam to detect methane concentration and come equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS capabilities.
