Sunshine Coast, QLD incorporates an automated waste collection system into Maroochydore City Centre
Sunshine Coast, QLD Automated Waste Collection System
The council invested in 6.5 kilometers of subterranean pipes originating in businesses and street-level bins. Recyclables and waste are moved via vacuum suction to a processing facility just outside of the city centre. This system is the first of its type operated by an Australian local government. Council officials anticipate reductions in littering, waste vehicle emissions, and landfill costs especially as the system expands into other districts.
