Surrey, BC shepherds local manufacturing shift to protective equipment with Surrey Makes PPE
Surrey, BC Surrey Makes PPE Local Manufacturing Equipment
City officials worked with three local manufacturers to transform production lines early in the COVID-19 pandemic. This concerted effort created a monthly capacity of 800,000 masks in less than four weeks. An online marketplace allows Canadian health groups and government agencies to order protective equipment from Surrey companies. The Surrey Makes PPE website houses a Manufacturer Research Centre with guidelines for companies interested in production shifts.
Project Succeeded
Surrey Makes PPE reported $10 million CAD in PPE sales in its first six months including 775,000 liters of sanitizer and 322,000 face shields. The city received the 2020 Excellence in Service Delivery from the Union of BC Municipalities.
