Thurrock Council, GB HUSK Garages Accessible Home Convert
Thurrock Council committed £500,000 to bring 201 derelict public garages back into use. Garages in the Chadwell St Mary area were turned into two council homes using HUSK systems. HUSK installs prefabricated living spaces within existing garage walls after roofs are removed. The single-story houses are are adaptable based on the mobility needs of their residents. Future garage renovations will expand housing and parking options while removing frequent illegal dumping sites.
