Washington, DC social workers for non-emergency 911 calls
The city of Washington's Office of Unified Communications built a custom interface to transfer 911 non-emergency calls involving mental health concerns to the city's Department of Behavioral Health. This initiative has resulted in a third of the daily 911 calls involving mental health concerns being dispatched to behavioral health professionals rather than to police officers.
