Waynesville, NC Police Department $2,000 drone program
The Waynesville Police Department (WPD) launched a $2,000 drone program which includes simply a drone, a hard carrying case, an iPad for viewing the video feed, and spare batteries. The WPD's certified drone pilot leads the new program which assists in surveillance during emergency situations involving hostages, search and rescue operations, drug busts, fleeing suspects, etc. The WPD cannot operate the drone in any situation without first obtaining a drone search warrant.
