Orange, NSW improves work health safety assessments with its Risk Profiling Matrix
Orange's Work, Health and Safety team created a matrix for evaluating potential work risks facing employees and contractors. This tool evaluates each of the council's operational functions and work sites as low, moderate, or high risk. The Risk Profiling Matrix enables smarter decision-making about the frequency and necessity of assignments from a WHS perspective. The council earned ISO45001 accreditation in August 2022 based in part on this project.

This process involved soliciting feedback from stakeholders, conducting a historical analysis of the city's current reserve amounts, and working with the city clerk's risk management office to determine the assets and insurance coverage needed to prepare for natural disasters.

To communicate reliable information and prevent confusion and misinformation, in addition to a COVID-19 resource page, the Mayor began sending out video messages to employees about the current state of affairs. The video messages to employees focused on general virus trends, called on employees to model behaviors for residents, provided updates on City Council actions taken in reaction to the virus, and thanked employees for their continued efforts to take care of the community.

The project uses innovative parametric insurance program pilots and capacity building within the city to harness risk-transfer markets and ensure disaster victims are paid quickly and effectively.

Pensacola, FL explains how sea level rises impact coastal assets with Resiliency Story Map
The narrative website opens with an explanation of coastal flooding and the steps taken to assess flood risks. Color-coded maps show areas of Pensacola at highest risk of flooding due to projected sea level rises in 2040, 2070, and 2100. A series of graphs shows the percentage of infrastructure types impacted by changing water levels. The Resiliency Story Map includes a map of priority areas for future planning along with recommendations for community leaders.
