Belo Horizonte, MG launched a digital radio communication system that integrates the Municipal Guard

The Municipality of Belo Horizonte launched a digital radio communication system that can integrate the Municipal Guard, the Subsecretariat of Supervision, the SAMU, and BHTrans during large-scale events and emergencies. This new digital radio communication system replaced the municipality's previous analog system and improved message security by adding encryption. The City of Belo Horizonte is repurposing cell phones confiscated from drug trafficking cases into an educational resource. Instead of discarding the 461 cell phones donated by the Criminal Execution Court of the Contagem District the city provided them to the municipal school system. The devices retain access to the internet but applications, data recordings, and saved files were deleted. The cell phones are only used during classroom activities before being cleaned and returned to the school.
