The council's gritting trucks will be equipped with automated dispensers programmed for even road treatment over a 12-month pilot. Onboard computers distribute grit mixtures based on road sizes and conditions. Vehicle outfitter ECON Ltd. worked with the council to design and implement gritting programs. Bolton officials hope for a more efficient gritting process for 317 miles of local roads treated an average of 81 times per winter.
