Successful applicants use the funds for innovative products, services, and practices that diversify the local economy. The SBAP application includes a required self-assessment tool that determines any permits required for proposed projects. Shire officials designed SBAP to create paths for startups and growing ventures to spur economic growth.

Corangamite, VIC develops new intranet powered by OpenCities that improves employee engagement

The council pursued a replacement for an outdated intranet insufficient for its 275-member distributed team. Shire officials and OpenCities created a new system that acts as a single log-in point for every employee. PDF forms were replaced by OpenForms, allowing mobile and desktop users to fill out everything from timesheets to media requests. Employees were engaged throughout a process that culminated in an all-staff vote to name the intranet CHESTER.
