Durham ran a pilot program to assist low-income residents whose driver license had been suspended for more than 18 months for Durham County charges that did not involve DWIs. Durham continues to run this program with great success, making improvements to the program every year.
Project Succeeded
Durham used data to remove barriers to employment for 46,000 individuals by suspending fines and fees, and restoring residents’ driver’s licenses. The city was awarded a What Works Cities Certification by Bloomberg Philanthropies for Excellence in Using Data and Evidence.
