Hamilton City Council, NZ award-winning safety improvements
Hamilton City Council partnered with NZ Transport Agency to implement major safety improvements at, the Gordon Road corridor, one of its busiest intersections. The Council installed traffic lights, lowered the speed limit, and introduced raised safety platforms in order to reduce the average speed of vehicles in the interaction. These improvements support the Council's Vision Zero initiative to achieve zero local road fatalities.

Project Succeeded
The Council was awarded the Road Safety Leadership Award at the NZ Traffic Institute Conference in recognition of the project. The safety improvements at the intersection reduced the average vehicle speed from 80 km/h to below 50 km/h.
